I come to you from the heart
of the galaxy, a place not
too far away from here.
Amid the silence
of winter, in the year 2014,
the surgeon's scalpel
and a cold steel operating
table awaited my arrival.
Knowing there was 'an other side'
lent certain comfort. Still, to hear
afterwards, the surgeon's words
as related to my wife:
"lucky thing he needed that single bypass
because his heart valve was shot,
wouldn't have lived another six months
to a year.",
left me immensely aware
of this precious gift of life.
My entire perspective shifted
in this rebirth, a second chance,
another roll of the holy dice.
And yet-lessons learned-
and here four-and-a-half years later,
I still fumble and fall
prey to those pesky past beliefs.
Now though in the solitude of grace's
whisper, I hear that I am doing lifetimes’
weight of work, to solve the mystery
of being human. I vow to
let each of you know,
just how this rebirth turns out,
by the time the clock turns,
one final time.
