Low Down Mean and Nasty Spiritual Blues
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent
about things that matter. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
Yes it’s true; I’ve got the low down
mean and nasty spiritual blues,
as the dark days and darker times
have all descended upon this circumspect
holiest time of year. The gratitude bucket
has run dry and I may have just run out
of things to replenish, though I know,
though I know, I have so much thanksgiving
to sing endless songs. Perhaps my friend
whose very reaching out to remind me,
that I too possess within me a shimmering light
which when rekindled would be the spark
sorely needed not only within me, yet
into the whole world, is all I needed
to lift these low down mean and nasty
spiritual blues. The room lights with
the sweet glow of seasons past, of a time
forgotten when the sheer light shone above,
around and beyond everything. I see now
a glimmer of light, even that is enough.
Thank you my rekindling friend. Thank you.
