When I now gaze upon my own face
reflected back at me from the bathroom
mirror, my first reaction is always to laugh
deeply, for the one beaming back at me
is this beautiful being that I have come
to love and even now trust -
with my life, if necessary.
What is not seen at first glance
is the detritus in the background-
a strange mix of ashes, onion skins
and finally, masks set aside one by one.
To travel as open and light as I do now
with most of my bags unpacked,
leaves me sailing upon sunrise seas,
where every new sunset
provides not only sustenance and peace-
yet the simple confirmation that in each
moment, I am home, at last.
